Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
